Virtual Reality Railway Training System

Project Groups 8 & 13

The problem

The current state of train driver training

Unnecessary spending

A lot of money is unnecessarily being incurred on the employment of instructors to train new staff.

Supervision required

Requiring personnel supervision for training prevents them from being able to perform other tasks and takes up their time.

Long and tedious process

Staff are currently required to journey on long, real-time routes multiple times to get experience.

The solution

What we bring to the table

Virtual Reality

Allows for the visualistic realism drivers are expected to familiarise themselves to as they would in real life.

Simulation of routes and scenarios

Drivers are familiarised with the routes they need to drive and the scenarios they may need to deal with.

Educate and test signals, controls and communication

An interface that allows drivers to interact with virtual objects such as train signals, railway crossings, junctions and more.

The benefits

Why use what we offer?

Immersive experience

The journey will feel real and interactive for the drivers to enhance their learning experience just as if they were in a real train.

Cost effective

This system will only need to be purchased once and can be used to train all future staff, rather than requiring a supervisor for each new driver.

Time saving

Un-eventful sections of the route may be skipped, and the key sections of a route can be focused on.
